  • Maynard Pond is managed by members of the Maynard Pond Association, Inc., a non-profit organization that purchased the property to preserve the pond and natural surroundings for long term neighborhood enjoyment. The Association’s financial commitments are for maintenance of dam and spillway integrity, erosion control, liability insurance, mowing, and landscaping. Supporters of Maynard Pond do not have to live within the Coronado Village neighborhood.

  • Maynard Pond is on Private Property. When the property was purchased by a developer in the 1970s, the pond became the centerpiece of a new subdivision called Coronado Village. The pond was rezoned to “Resource/Conservation” and purchased in 1989 by the Coronado Village Home Owners Association, an organization which was formed solely to preserve the pond from draining and development. The current zoning designation is “Recreation/Resource.”

Supporters of Maynard Pond do not have to live within the Coronado Village neighborhood.

  • Maynard Pond is a spring-fed headwater of Walnut Creek which flows through Raleigh. The spring is located behind the property parcel at 503 Ralph Drive. The pond has served to water livestock and irrigate crops. It has served as a recreation area and a storm water detention facility for many years. Now such resources are being referred to as “open spaces.” Although not a formal nature preserve, Maynard Pond is a natural oasis within the heart of Cary.

  • Catch and release fishing is allowed in designated areas only and fishing is NOT allowed along the dam. New signs indicating designated fishing areas will be posted soon. Limiting fishing to specific locations will greatly reduce erosion around many of the pond’s fragile areas and preserve the natural landscape. All fish, frogs, and turtles are catch and release. Please leave no trace as litter, fish hooks, and fishing line are hazardous to local wildlife.

  • You can always donate to the Maynard Pond Association to help keep the pond beautiful and functional. More information on the Long Term Preservation Plan can be found here!
