About Maynard Pond
Located in the one of the most desirable locations in Cary, Maynard Pond, originally a simple farm pond built in the 1950s for watering dairy cattle, has transformed over the years. From being part of the first irrigation system in Wake County for tobacco plants, it has evolved into a cherished recreation spot since the 1960s. Fond memories include learning to fish, feeding ducks, walking, jogging, sunbathing, and enjoying peaceful moments by the water for residents of Cary and beyond.
Maintaining the Pond
Join us in helping to maintain Maynard Pond through implementing attractive, sustainable and sensible low-maintenance strategies, with emphasis on native habitat, pond water management; and environmental stewardship. Residents throughout Cary frequently visit Maynard Pond to enjoy catch-n-release fishing and observe the flora and fauna. Long-term planning projects include pond care and maintenance, land management, plantings, as well as communications and branding to extend outreach to any Cary residents interested in the care and preservation of Maynard Pond.
